OUR MISSION

Our mission is to promote the youth-driven music and arts community in Tucson, Arizona

Groundworks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with an all-ages music venue, art gallery, and education space dedicated to artistic and creative youth in Tucson. We are the only all-ages venue in town specifically designed and created for youth ages 14-24. Groundworks is entirely volunteer-run (including our administrative staff) and are funded primarily through grassroots donations and revenue.

Our activities include:

  • Live music every Friday + Saturday night (and even some weekdays),

  • New gallery shows once per month featuring local artists,

  • A zine and comic book library with over 500 items,

  • Educational initiatives including our youth-driven Creative Youth Alliance (CYA), workshops, and equipment sharing,

  • We are also a community space that acts as a host for meetings, markets, community partnerships, lessons/classes, and more!

OUR HISTORY

Here are some of the notable events in Groundworks' history

  • 2019: Groundworks is founded by a group of artists and educators, becoming a 501(c)(3) on April 2nd, 2019. Through a Kickstarter fundraiser and multiple fundraising events around Tucson, Groundworks raised funds to pay for a place for programming, events, and more.

  • 2020: Groundworks set out to open its first brick-and-mortar space in January 2020. However, with the onset of the pandemic, the grand opening was halted and Groundworks pivoted to virtual programming through the end of the year.

  • 2021: Groundworks continues its virtual efforts, eventually moving into a new physical space and opening doors in November 2021.

  • 2022: Groundworks hosts over 150 live events including concerts, art exhibitions, markets, live streams, workshops, classes, and a carnival! Over 10,000 participants, volunteers, and attendees engaged with the organization this year.

  • 2023: Groundworks continues classes and events to this day, while expanding programming and reach to a broader Tucson community!

  • 2024 (and beyond): Groundworks plans to continue ongoing programming, but hopes to hire paid staff, upgrade facilities/equipment, and further invest in the artistic education of Tucson’s creative youth.
